CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE ROCKS!
In addition to acupuncture, cupping, and moxa another super important component I use in my practice is Chinese Herbal Medicine. I regularly recommend herbs to complement the acupuncture treatment and to improve the presenting condition more quickly.
I recommend herbs for digestive issues, allergies, insomnia, anxiety, depression, headaches, stress relief, low energy, menstrual problems, to strengthen the immune system, and much more. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) we work with patterns of disharmony in the body and treat the root cause and the branch or symptoms of a condition. So the herbs are recommended based on a pattern we identify.
What do the herbs look like?
In these modern times, I do not send you with a bag of herbs or dried leaves and twigs. I understand that time is an issue and also the taste of the raw herbs can sometimes be less than delicious (although I like to experience the different flavors). Instead, you will get the herbs in either pill or capsule form and you will receive instructions on the appropriate dosage.
Once you start taking the herbs, you will love how good they make you feel and the difference they make in your quality of life. I love how clients have come up with such endearing terms for their herbs such as witchy pills or unicorn horn pills!
Can I use Chinese Herbal Medicine?
Yes, Chinese herbal medicine is safe to use in most cases and for most people. Of course, it is important to know when it is best not to combine pharmaceuticals with herbal medicine. For example, I would not recommend herbs that “invigorate the blood” to someone who is already on blood thinners.
An Herbal Consultation
Please feel free to inquire about an herbal consultation if you are interested in incorporating herbs into your self-care practice. Some people who might initially be scared of doing acupuncture may choose to start with herbal medicine. I am here to support you in your health journey.
